The FAFO Chronicles was established in September, 2023 as a spinoff of the site SorryAntivaxxer (SAV). It is not intended to compete with or replace SAV, however a group of like-minded SAV members wanted to have a means for continued communication that was not tied to the status of the COVID pandemic. The shared interest is reflected in the tongue-in-cheek title of the site – namely, the tendency of people to do stupid things, despite best advice, without thinking about logic or consequences. Turning a public health crisis into a political game served as the poster child for FAFO stupidity from 2020 to 2023, but we recognize that FAFO goes well beyond that singular global event. Politics, religion, sport, business, media, and entertainment provide an endless supply of foolishness to examine and hold up to ridicule. We like to laugh at the expense of these would-be influencers when they are hoist on their own petard.
Why do we do this? For amusement, for education, and perhaps sometimes for catharsis. We cling to the hope, small as it may be, that such ridicule may have a positive impact at de-influencing the influencers, perhaps by cutting through the influence fog just a teeny bit.
It is not our goal to harass or harm private individuals, but those in the public eye are fair game. “Public eye” refers to people who make a living promoting themselves or their branding to the public at large, and therefore are in a position to cause disproportionate damage to society. It’s one thing to do something stupid for which you will pay the consequences. It’s another thing to influence others to follow your lead.
This site is meant for adults and is intended to be largely self-policing. There are few rules. Anyone who registered prior to October 6, 2023 was automatically designated with Author status, meaning he or she is able to post content, make comments, and participate in chat. (Those registering after that date are designated with Subscriber status which allows them to comment and chat, but not post new articles. Author status may be requested by emailing me).
If the above privileges are abused, you may be warned or banned from further participation.
These are the basic site rules:
Say what you want, as long as it does not break the law.
- No threats of violence. No calls for assassination.
- No publishing copyrighted material outside of legal āfair useā (see FAQ).
- No doxxing or trolling.
Be kind to each other.
- No public infighting. Private messaging exists for a reason.
- Please do not harass or personally attack other members.
- Bear in mind that we have members from around the globe and behave accordingly.
Please don’t test me. I have no desire to play policeman and very little time to do it. If you make yourself a pain in the neck or bring any risk to the admin or other members, the karma of FAFO will fall upon you. We’re here to have fun, have some laughs, commiserate about the state of the world, and, who knows, maybe learn or teach a thing or two.
This site is a not-for-profit, non-commercial endeavor. Donations help to defray hosting and software costs, but are definitely not required, and we have no intention of placing ads or monetizing the site. Please play nice and enjoy.
