Comedian Bill Hicks said that one time he was reading a book while sitting at a table in a small town diner. The waitress asked, “What are you readin’ for?”

I know a person who is barely literate, and can’t admit to themself that it’s a handicap, a restriction.

Their son is the same, I once gave him a light-hearted book as a gift, and he just bluntly stated, “I don’t read”. But he listens to audio-books, and he’s definitely not stupid.

I think one of the problems is the conservative scorn for education, (“those damn lefty students!”🤣) which can be passed down to kids. It limits their life-choices. It certainly did with the people I’m speaking of here. 🙁
